The Department of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana is a segment of Ayurveda that focuses on formulating medicines using Kashtaoushadhi (Herbal), Rasoushadhi (Mineral), and Kashta-rasoushadhi (Herbo-mineral). Kasthaoushdhi involves utilizing various parts of herbs in both wet and dry forms, including toxic drugs that must undergo specific processes like shodhana before being incorporated into medicines. Rasoushadhi encompasses minerals, metals, and animal-origin drugs, which require proper procedures such as shodhana and marana to eliminate toxicity. The department imparts knowledge on various samskaras mentioned in ancient texts to students.
Various formulations like Vati, Vatika, Churna, Bhasma, Kupipakwa rasa, parpati, pottali, Varti, Asavarishta, arka, etc., are crafted, and practical sessions are conducted regularly. The department is equipped with all necessary instruments for practical work. A meticulously maintained museum houses specimens of metals, minerals, herbal drugs, pharmacy models, etc., providing students with valuable resources. Additionally, pharmacy visits are organized throughout the academic year to enhance understanding of pharmacy and industrial management related to manufacturing.
